Difference Between N95 and KN95 Masks

Not much. The N95 masks are the US standards for masks; the KN95 are the Chinese standards for masks. Despite the long list of differences, the two masks are equivalent to the features that most people care about.

According to mask manufacturer 3M, “it is reasonable to consider” China’s KN95s “equivalent” to US N95s. Mask standards for Europe (FFP2), Australia (P2), Korea (KMOEL), and Japan (DS) are also highly similar.

Both masks are rated to capture 95% of particles. On this metric, N95 and KN95 masks are the same.

The FDA allows the import and sale of the KN95 in the US.

People will often sit that these masks only capture 95% of particles above a certain size (often 0.3 microns). However, masks are actually more effective than many people believe. Empirical data finds that masks are actually highly effective at capturing smaller particles.

Bottom Line: Difference between N95 and KN95, are both rated to capture 95% of particles, although only KN95s are required to pass fit tests. N95s have slightly stronger requirements for breathability. But both are good and will keep you safe.

Sanitize or wash your hands.

Open the mask to make the nose clip at the top and pull the ear strap with both of your hands.

Step 3
Pull the ear straps behind your eyes and adjust them to make you feel comfortable.

Step 4
Extend the mask to fully cover your mouth, nose and chin.

Step 5
Mould the nose strip over your nose bridge.

Step 6
You are done. If you feel teh air is scaping from the nose clip or the edges, readjust the mask and ensure is tight.
